Fear, Rumors and a Growing Investigation — November 27, 2022

Nearly two weeks after the murders, the investigation was continuing without a publicly identified suspect. Moscow Police acknowledged the fear within the community and warned that speculation without factual support was spreading false information.

Hundreds of Digital Submissions

Police reported that community members had uploaded more than 488 digital media submissions to the FBI tip system. Investigators continued asking for photographs, video and other information that could provide context about the people and events surrounding the murders.

Fear in the Community

Police also documented an increase in calls from concerned residents. Since November 13, the department had received 78 calls reporting unusual circumstances and 36 requests for welfare checks. Police encouraged residents facing an emergency to call 911 before contacting friends or family.

A Vigil for Ethan, Xana, Madison and Kaylee

The University of Idaho announced a candlelight vigil for November 30 to honor Ethan Chapin, Xana Kernodle, Madison Mogen and Kaylee Goncalves.
