Two days after the murders, Moscow Police addressed growing concerns about safety in the community. Police said investigators believed the killings were an isolated, targeted attack and that there was no imminent threat to the community at large, although they urged residents to remain vigilant.
A Knife Was Suspected
Police said that although no weapon had been recovered, preliminary information led investigators to believe an edged weapon, such as a knife, had been used. Autopsies were scheduled for later in the week, and police said they hoped those examinations would provide more definitive information about the cause of death.
No Suspect in Custody
At this point, police said no suspects were in custody. Investigators were working to reconstruct the victims’ activities during the evening of November 12 and early morning of November 13, while following leads and identifying people who might have information.
Chief Fry Addresses the Community
Later that evening, Chief James Fry issued a separate statement addressing growing fears in Moscow. He said investigators had determined early in the investigation that they did not believe there was an ongoing threat to the community and that the evidence indicated a targeted attack.
At the same time, Fry acknowledged that violence was possible in any community and asked residents to remain vigilant, stay alert, and report suspicious activity while the case remained unsolved.
