The Idaho College Murders — November 13, 2022

On Sunday, November 13, 2022, four University of Idaho students — Kaylee Goncalves, Madison Mogen, Xana Kernodle, and Ethan Chapin — were found dead in an off-campus home at 1122 King Road in Moscow, Idaho. The case would soon draw national attention, but that morning, the people closest to them had no idea how large this story was about to become.

At approximately 11:58 a.m., a 911 call was made from the King Road residence using surviving roommate Bethany Funke’s phone. According to Moscow Police, multiple people spoke with the dispatcher before officers arrived. The call was initially reported as a request for help for an “unconscious person.” The 911 call itself has not been publicly released.

When Police Arrived

Moscow Police officers responded to 1122 King Road shortly before noon. Inside the home, officers found Kaylee Goncalves, Madison Mogen, Xana Kernodle, and Ethan Chapin deceased. Authorities determined that all four had been stabbed. Two other roommates who were inside the home survived.
