Patsy Ramsey

JonBenét’s mother · JonBenét Ramsey case

Who They Are

Patsy Ramsey was JonBenét’s mother. Her name became closely connected to the investigation after the family reported JonBenét missing on December 26, 1996. The loss of a child and the intense public response became part of her family’s history.

A Boulder County grand jury voted in 1999 to bring proposed charges involving JonBenét’s parents, but the district attorney did not pursue them. No trial or conviction followed. The difference between an unprosecuted grand-jury action and a finding of guilt must be kept clear.

In 2008, after Patsy’s death, District Attorney Mary Lacy issued a public statement about the DNA evidence and the family. That statement is a dated prosecutorial position, not a verdict identifying JonBenét’s killer.

Her documented role here is as JonBenét’s mother and a person named in the public history of the case. This biography does not treat suspicion or a media theory as proof.
