Angela “Angie” Buck | Case Timeline
Her life, the 1995 investigation and the developing 2026 prosecutions, with each date tied to a source.
April 17, 1958 | Angie’s birth
Angela Renee Buck was born in Waterloo, Iowa, to Richard Buck and Lorene Crowley Buck. The family history, including her mother’s later service on the Evansdale City Council, is documented in the Iowa Cold Cases family account.
1970s to early 1990s | Angie’s life
Angie played violin in her school orchestra, loved horses and raised four children. She had worked as a nursing aide and later pursued training in radio announcing. These are documented life details, not images purporting to show her riding or playing.
1992 | Death of Angie’s mother
Angie’s mother, Lorene, died after an illness. Relatives later described how deeply the loss affected Angie. That is family recollection and should not be misused as an explanation for her killing.
August 9, 1995 | Historical archive date disputed
The Iowa Cold Cases index labels August 9 as the homicide date. But its historical reporting establishes only an August 11 discovery and an early estimate that death occurred within roughly the previous two days. The 2026 complaint’s reported allegations place Angie with others late August 10 into August 11. August 9 is NOT a verified medical-examiner time-of-death determination. This discrepancy is unresolved until the original records are checked.
August 10–11, 1995 | Alleged events before the killing
A 2026 criminal complaint, as described in court reporting, alleges that Angie, Kelly Grant and another man were at a home in the 300 block of Cottage Street in Waterloo. It describes an altercation and a witness account of Angie being forced into a vehicle. Those claims have not been proved in court.
August 11, 1995 | Body discovered near a creek
Two men looking for places to set turtle traps noticed Angie’s body along a creek near a short bridge on North Pilot Grove Road east of Waterloo. The Iowa State Medical Examiner determined that a gunshot caused her death.
August 11, 1995 | Original scene-search record
The archival transcription of August 12 newspaper coverage says twenty people searched the creek, fields and ditches on Friday and took bags containing what appeared to be evidence. The discoverers reportedly gave written statements. Investigators questioned a nearby resident about whether the creek had flooded. These are leads to request original police logs, witness statements, evidence labels and inventory; the archive does not identify a warrant or confirm what any bag contained.

August 12–13, 1995 | Identification and homicide investigation
Contemporary newspaper reporting describes investigators searching the creek area and collecting material; authorities identified Angie and announced the case was being treated as a homicide. The original scene log and evidence inventory have not yet been obtained.
August 14–18, 1995 | Family memories and other leads
Family members spoke publicly about Angie’s generous nature and her love for her children. Investigators compared her death with another Iowa homicide but police later said the two cases were not connected.
January 1996 | Reported associate interview
According to later reporting based on a criminal complaint, an associate told investigators of an alleged statement implying Angie was killed after being accused of theft. This remains a reported allegation; the original recording or transcript has not been inspected.
January 1996 | Jackson's reported jail-alibi interview
The Des Moines Register reports that Lindell Jackson told investigators he had been in Linn County custody during Angie's August 1995 death. According to a court document described by the newspaper, investigators checked the jail record and concluded he was in custody later that month, not on the date of the homicide. We have not inspected the actual 1995 intake/release log or original 1996 interview, so this is a reported prosecution account, not an independent finding.

1996–2001 | Repeated investigative interviews
Investigators interviewed Kelly Grant on multiple occasions. The 2026 complaint, as summarized by FOX 9, describes differing accounts of acquaintances, whereabouts and a possible connection to Angie. Exact interview tapes and reports remain requested.
July 1997 or July 2001 | Reported Grant interview year conflicts
FOX 9 and Bring Me The News describe a July 2001 interview in which Grant reportedly said he was living in Florida during Angie’s death, later changing that account. The Des Moines Register’s October 29 retrospective instead lists July 1997 among his interviews. We have not obtained the underlying dated interview, and will preserve both dates without treating either as proven.
December 2008 | The case remains open
Retiring Sheriff Michael Kubik identified Angie’s homicide as one of the cases that continued to weigh on investigators. No criminal conviction had resolved her murder.
March 2025 | Reported renewed interview
In a reported interview with Grant, investigators documented a different account involving a visit to the Cottage Street area and a woman who resembled Angie. The exact interview transcript is not independently available to FITF.
2025 | Second possible motive reported
The charging narrative says investigators learned of a false belief that Angie was reporting drug activity to police. This is an alleged motive, not evidence that Angie was an informant; a separate earlier account alleged theft.
March 2025 and September 2026 | Jackson interviewed again
According to October 29 reporting describing his charging complaint, Jackson acknowledged knowing Angie in March 2025 but disputed knowing Grant; in September 2026 he reportedly acknowledged spending time with Grant and selling drugs in the neighborhood around 1995. The original interviews and context are not authenticated. These accounts are not proof of the charged murder.
October 15–16, 2026 | First murder charge announced
Kelly Joseph Grant, 59, of Bertha, Minnesota, was arrested October 15 and his first-degree murder charge was publicly announced October 16. His guilt has not been determined.
October 27, 2026 | Grant booked into Black Hawk County custody
The Black Hawk County Sheriff’s official jail roster records Kelly Joseph Grant booked at 8:47 p.m. on October 27, with a first-degree murder charge and a no-bond hold. This is a separate custody event from his October 15 arrest in Minnesota; it does not indicate a fresh evidence search or establish guilt. Jail status can change.
October 28–29, 2026 | Second murder charge and first appearance
Lindell Jackson, 50, of Waterloo, was charged October 28 while already jailed in an unrelated matter. Reporting says he had an initial appearance October 29. He is presumed innocent.

October 29, 2026 | Jail-record cross-check
The official Black Hawk County roster lists Lindell Andre Jackson Sr. with an August 1, 2026 booking date and multiple charges, including the new first-degree murder allegation. His pre-existing custody is separate from the October 28 murder charge. His original detention does not show that police obtained or executed a search warrant in Angie’s case.
Next proceedings | Docket verification pending
Separate case numbers, filed probable-cause complaints, charging versions, warrants, discovery schedules and upcoming hearing dates still require direct verification through Iowa Courts Online or the Black Hawk County clerk. Do not treat a reported future hearing as a concluded court event.
What this timeline cannot establish yet
We have not inspected the actual 1995 evidence inventory, full ballistics documentation, original interviews, current docket numbers or both certified criminal complaints. Investigators’ statements and reported charging allegations do not prove guilt, and the depicted bridge is an illustration, not a verified photograph of the scene.
